The Spirited Man.
We are in the Fourth Turn.
Last night, as I nestled under layers of blankets, browsing youtube, wishing sleep would hurry up and fuck me, a video by Van Neistat sat in my recommendations. It's a part of his series "A Spirited Man." The video covers the book The Fourth Turning: An American Prophecy - What the Cycles of History Tell Us About America's Next Rendezvous with Destiny by William Struss. It blew my mind out of my skull onto the tellie. There are 80 years per wave. 20 years per block. Each block: High (Everything is golden.), Awakening, Unraveling, Crisis. We're in the Crisis, and it's right on cue.
I've become a nihilist as of late. Terrible news no longer bothers me. Meh. What else is new? My balls haven't produced children, and my hands never acquired wealth. What do I have to worry or care about? I have a yearbook of nieces and nephews I admire and love, but they're safe, right?
There's an interesting comparison between Van Niestat and his younger brother, the Youtube legend, the VLog maverick, Casey Niestat. They have the same Tinkerer archetype, but their artistry opposes one another. Van is more of the poet, and Casey is the personality. Casey takes to the street and Van to the quiet of his studio. The extrovert and the introvert, respectively. It's nice to see Van blow up more. We need more video poets on YouTube as the space has been poisoned by the unauthentic.
I've been considering finding cheap studio space, even if it's a closet. A place I can dedicate filmmaking, writing, photography, and streaming. A place to work that's pure and untainted. A dream. A place where my bed isn't attached. No TV. A workspace. Posters would adorn the walls mingled with paintings and art! A mini fridge is hiding underneath the desk, filled with chilled water and its flavored relatives. The desk. Oh, the DESK! It is antiquated, dented, scarred, and aged, engraved with the memories of the last century and beyond; drawers for knickknacks and hidden compartments for my secret treasures. No crowded top for me, only the essentials! Dual monitors and a stylized typewriter keyboard will set center stage. A pencil and pen holder, which will have its own charm will accent the simple layout. A file holder for manuscripts or screenplays filled to the brim with such. My Super 8 camera must be visible. And what else? Well, you get the idea. The desk is the sanctuary. The desk must resemble the spirit of the user.
The Spirited Man will find peace behind a suitable, robust, and charming desk.
